The course
Not a standard online TEFL course
Many online TEFL courses are low-cost, self-paced courses. The online Trinity CertTESOL is different: it is the full Level 5 qualification, and four things set it apart.
✓ Accreditation: awarded by Trinity College London and regulated at Level 5 (Ofqual), recognised by schools worldwide
✓ The same syllabus as every CertTESOL format: the course is always the same, only the format changes
✓ Real teaching practice: you teach real learners online on Zoom, observed and assessed by your tutors
✓ Feedback: detailed feedback from expert tutors after your teaching, plus live lessons with experienced trainers
One course, every format
Same TEFL qualification, no relocation
Every CertTESOL format follows the same syllabus: the course is always the same and only the format changes. The certificate, its Ofqual Level 5 status and its international recognition are identical to the face-to-face and blended courses, and the certificate does not mention the study format. Studying online suits you if you cannot relocate or take a month off work, and if you like, you can add optional face-to-face teaching practice at our training centre in Rome. Studying online does not mean teaching online: graduates teach in classrooms around the world just as often as online.
Weekly rhythm
How the online TEFL course works

Flexible study

Questions
Online TEFL course: FAQ
Do I need to travel to Italy at any point?
No. The online TEFL course is fully remote and you never have to travel. If you would like some face-to-face teaching practice, you can add optional in-person practice at our training centre in Rome, or choose the Blended CertTESOL (2 weeks online, then 4 weeks in Rome).
How is this different from a cheap online TEFL course?
It is the Trinity CertTESOL, not a standard online TEFL course. It is awarded by Trinity College London and regulated at Level 5, it follows the same syllabus as every CertTESOL format, and it includes observed teaching practice with real learners on Zoom and detailed tutor feedback, which low-cost self-paced courses often lack.
Is the certificate different from the in-person one?
No. It is the same Trinity College London TEFL certificate, and it does not mention the study format.
Will I have to teach online afterwards?
No. Studying online does not limit where you teach: graduates work in classrooms worldwide as well as online.
Is the Trinity CertTESOL the same as the CELTA?
They are equivalent: both are regulated Level 5 qualifications with at least 6 hours of assessed teaching practice, recognised by language schools worldwide. The difference is the awarding body (Trinity College London or Cambridge). See our full comparison: TEFL, TESOL or CELTA: what’s the difference?
